The Chūnin Exams

If a member(s) is a Genin and they have shown dedication and improvements in their selective Village then they will be granted the opportunity to display their training in the Chūnin Exams. During the Chūnin Exams a member will be pinned against another member and they are to battle until one is victorious, during this time member's characters cannot be killed. The victor will then become a Chūnin for their selective Village and the loser will be forced to take the Chūnin Exams again until they have defeated another Genin-ranked member.
